A Day in the Life of a Sweet Old Dog

Last week, I wrote about our sweet border collie, Trixie, as part of a sponsored campaign from #CollectiveBias Inc. and its advertiser. We were challenged to switch out her old dog food and replace it with #BrightMind by Purina to see if she regained some pep and renewed interest in the tricks and games of her puppyhood.

This has been a fun challenge, and it’s reminded us to see the world from Trixie’s eyes again. We’d become so busy – as a homeschooling family is wont to be – and had begun to take her for granted. The kids, especially, enjoyed the chance to focus on playing with their favorite friend again.

And, actually… a dog’s life is pretty great.

Each morning, my 12 year old gets up and feeds Trixie to help kick-start her day. Then they head outside for a quick romp – mostly to get some of the energy out so that same 12 year old can settle down and start his school day. Our dog is the perfect fidget tool for a gifted kid with psychomotor overexcitabilities

Then, they head inside where the kids settle into their school work, and Trixie relaxes underfoot. Right underfoot.

Between play breaks, she parks herself where ever I am, and stays as close to me as she can. Except when someone walks by our house – she needs to watch their every move until they are long gone. Her favorite spot is at the kitchen window, as it’s right near where we do our school work, but she has a clear view of the neighborhood.

Sometimes we take her to run errands with us in the afternoons – she’s a dog that loves the adventure of a car ride.

I’m thankful that Purina ProPlan Bright Mind is helping us enjoy the senior years of our aging buddy. Do you have an adult dog? What are some of your favorite activities to do together?
