innovative STEM programming for kids

My.Future | Innovative STEM Programming for Kids

Are your kids STEM-loving kids like mine? I love that my kiddos would rather tinker and invent, or try to film a stop-motion animation than almost anything else. Our world was built by innovative spirits, and our future needs more of them.

From the time they’re little, we work hard to give them the tools they’ll need to tackle challenges and come up with new ways to solve problems. Encouragement and access to opportunities builds them up and sets them up for success.

We cultivate innovative and creative thinking by providing our kiddos with lots of opportunities for free exploration. And we think outside the box.

Because they’ll need to.

Code breaking, programming, film work, design… these are the things that will set our kids apart as they grow and become adults.

While we’re not currently sending our kids to afterschool programs, I am thankful that programs like the Boys & Girls Club of America My.Future exist for kids that want and need them. When I was in high school and college, I volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club in my town, and was so impressed at all of the great activities and programs they offered for the kids with whom I worked.

With their new My.Future platform, kids have the opportunity to discover and develop new passions in science, technology, engineering, and math. For more than 150 years, Boys & Girls Clubs have been leaders in programming for kids, and research shows that when kids participate in programs related to STEM topics, their interest in innovative – and world changing – careers increase.

My.Future provides kids with programming that will spark their interest in STEM careers by capitalizing on things kids are already interested in – check it out for yourself. STEM jobs continue to grow, and they’re expected to continue growing nearly twice as quickly as other fields by 2018, and so our kiddos need these skills to compete.

I’m most impressed with the range of choices on the platform. Things like typing, gaming, web design, code cracking, and putting a stop to malware. Once kids master those staff-facilitated topics, they’ll move onto extensions like programming and online journalism. It’s novel and motivating.

And I love that an organization like the Boys & Girls Club of America is growing and changing with the global needs we face and providing programs that help our kids tackle them.

Have you ever participated in programs provided by the Boys & Girls Club of America?
