Creative Snack Ideas for Kids

If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for easy to grab, fun, and creative snack options for your kids, and so I was excited to be a part of this compensated opportunity from Collective Bias, Inc. and Quaker. All opinions are mine alone. Let’s face it, as homeschool moms we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. With kids home all day long, there’s always someone clamoring for a snack.

I love coming up with new snack mixes to keep the kids happy, and to use up all those handfuls that always seem to be leftover in the bottom of cereal boxes and pretzel bags. You know what I’m talking about, right? There’s not enough to divide up between all the kids, but there’s too much to be thrown out…

Since we’re home most days, but do hit the road for co-op, homeschool band, and zoo classes, I like to keep snacks like Quaker® Life, Quaker® Simply Granola, Quaker® Oatmeal Squares, pretzels, dried fruit, and fish crackers on hand. It makes for a well-stocked grab-and-go snack cupboard.

My toddler is just getting into imaginative play, and loves pretending to go fishing, so my big kids pulled together a “Going Fishing” snack mix for him. He was delighted and pretended to use his pretzel “fishing rods” to capture the fish, while gobbling up Quaker® Oatmeal Squares “rafts” and marshmallow “buoys.”

We grabbed all of our ingredients, along with fresh fruits and vegetables for more good-for-you snack options at our local Walmart. You’ll need:

  • 2 cups Quaker® Oatmeal Squares {we bought cinnamon flavored}
  • 2 cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 1 cup Dried Blueberries
  • 2 cups Goldfish Crackers
  • 2 cups Pretzel Sticks
  • 1 cup Mini Chocolate Chips {optional}

Dump all of your ingredients in a big bowl and mix together. Serve in snack-size bowls or portion into snack-sized zipper bags for easy snacking-on-the-go. The mix will keep for up to a week in an airtight container.
